Welcome to my web page. For 25+ years, and almost 3,000 shows, my goal is to engage and entertain audiences, large and small, of all ages, with my acoustic guitar, voice and enthusiasm on stage.

My primary genre of my music is western music, often with a touch of Irish. But, I also have a broad repertoire of folk, Americana, classic country, cover songs (see below), Irish and originals songs, including some sing-alongs, and humor. A few cowboy poems add a western perspective to any evening.

I spent 17 years as part of the duo Yampa Valley Boys. We recorded 8 CD’s. I have been solo since 2017. I now have 4 solo CD recordings.

I have done some John Denver tribute shows. I can also do shows featuring all Irish songs, or Christmas songs, as well as a variety of cover songs from such artists as The Eagles, Bob Dylan, Jimmy Buffet, Merle Haggard and many others. I have performed throughout many of the western states, and once in Ireland.  My 3 solo CD recordings are listed below in the Music/Discography section.   “The Lump of Coal” was a top 20 western CD, for most  2021, per “The Western Way”. 

Home base is still in the Yampa Valley, but I now spend about half of the year in Casa Grande, AZ.  Whether I’m in the Colorado mountains, or the Arizona desert, my songs often have an Irish connection. 

I am comfortable with a formal stage concert as well as happy hour, birthday, BBQ, anniversary or any other kind of gathering. No audience too large or too small. It’s all about engaging and entertaining an audience and having fun. To paraphrase an old western TV slogan, “have fun, will travel”.

A DRIFTIN’ COWBOY’S SONG 3:58 (© Steve Jones 2026)  My newest, and I think the best, original song about a cowboy who has places to go and decisions to make.  For effect, Ian harmonica track to the guitar and vocal.                                                                                                                                                                               2.  COME RIDE WITH ME 4:13 (© Dave Stamey 2009)  I’ve been singing this 2010 IWMA song of the year, for many years with great success, it’s my favorite Dave Stamey song. A bass track adds to the guitar and vocal on this one.                                                                                                                                                                  3.  SUPERSTITION MOUNTAIN 4:05  (© Steve Jones 2025) There are hundreds of stories, legends and lore about this mountain near Apache Junction, AZ.  Apache Indians, gold mining, claim jumping, gun fights, a hostile land, along with a true story are included in this original song.  This one also has a bass track                                                                                                                         4.  NIGHT RIDER’S LAMENT 3:25  (© Michael Burton 1975.)  One of the best cowboy song ever!  I am often requested to do this one.   It’s simply guitar and vocal.                                                                                                5. DAYS OF RIDING WITH THE WIND  3:09  (© Greg Scott ) A nostalgic song about the cattle drive era from Texas to Colorado.  Greg left us much too soon in July 2009.  It’s still one of my favorite cowboy songs.  This track was taken from a Yampa Valley Boys’                                                                                                          C6.  BEYOND THE GREAT DIVIDE  1:56 (© Steve Jones 2026)  My arrangement of a poem written by Bill May, a true pioneer and poet laureate of Steamboat Springs.  Again, simply guitar and vocal.                                             7.  CALLIN’ OF THE PIPES  2:19  (© Steve Jones 2011)  An Irish cowboy hears the pipes calling him home.  One of my favorite original songs from a previous CD                                                                                                 8.  SMALL IN THE SADDLE  3:22  (© Steve Jones 2026)  A song about my sister and the horse she rode racing barrels at rodeos when she was ten years old.  The horse was named Cheater, and was our Dad’s roping horse.  It’s based on old black and white photo from many years ago that I found in an old photo album.                                                                                                                                                                                         9.  WHOA LITTLE COWBOY 2:35 (© Steve Jones 2026)  Laurie Lee’s painting, “Whoa Little Cowboy”, was the featured poster for the 2023 Durango Cowboy Gathering.  This is my interpretation.  It has gotten a good response.                                                                                                                                                                    10. WHISPERING JESSE  3:10  (© John Denver)  A live recording from a concert in Elizabeth Colorado several years ago, along with John Fisher, Brad and Cathy Fitch.t was one of the most memorable concerts by the Yampa Valley Boys (John and I) along with Brad and Cathy.  This track appeared on a Yampa Valley Boys CD, many years ago.                                                                                                                         11.  PARTING GLASS/SAFE HOME 3:52 (© Steve Jones) This track is actually a medley of A Scots farewell song predating Auld Lang Syne, and “Safe Home”, an Irish farewell—safe journey home.  The Irish term is “slan abhaille”.  This one is from a previous CD.
